My customer is experiencing a couple of programming issues when loss of power. We lose our outbound route for the PRI when we have lossed power due to recent bad weather. All other programming stays. Is this a battery issue? is there a corrective action?

On certain software versions that happens. I believe also if you have a Release 1 NVRAM cartridge with 6.0 or higher software this issue will always come up.

OK, what version is the NVRAM cartridge? Just to make sure, on the KSU you will see what appears to be a half-sized card on the upper left just to the right of the power supply. This card has two pieces, the larger NVVRAM cartridge and also what looks like a PC-MCIA card that slides into it, the PC-MCIA looking card is your system software. The NV-RAM cartridge contains your system programming and will have a sticker on the front. Look for a release number, like Rls 01 or Rls 02. If it's Rls 01 then it needs to be changed out to a Rls 02. This should have been done when either the system was installed with your 6.0 software, or changed out when your system was upgraded from a previous release to your current 6.0 software.

The older release of NV-RAM can make your software run erratic. One of the symptons is what you're experiencing.

Hope this explains it a bit better.

DB, I will check out the NVRAM RLS to see what it is. Thank you for the assistance. I will update in a couple days.

Thanks,
Joe

I did validate the S/W is 6.0 and the NVRAM Cartridge is RLS 1. Can I power down the KSU install a newer NVRAM with my 6.0 S/W and power back up, maintain my programming? There is a large UPS connected but the past power failures were due to weather and power was out 8-24hrs.

Thank you,
Joe

All customer data resides in the NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory). This is why you can swap the PCMCIA software card and not lose you data. If you swap out the NVRAM you WILL lose all your data. Get a RAD and backup the software.

I have a spare KSU & NVRAM, I pulled the NVARM out of it and installed my software in a spare NVRM and installed it back and it kept my programming. I then reversed tis an dput the old NVRAM in my KSU with my S/W and again my programming all remained intact.

Curly and DB I really appreciate you guys on this forum, I spend alot of time just reading info that relates to work or issues I see in the field. Keep up the good work it is appreciated.
