Does anyone know how to configure EXOS to detect and prevent Layer 2 network loops? In Extremeware the is a lbdetect that will shut the port down and retry every so often, but in EXOS this command does not seem to be there. I have been reading up on elrp, but the documentation I have states
After a loop is detected through ELRP, different recovery actions can be taken such as blocking certain
ports to prevent loop or logging a message to system log. The action taken is largely dependent on the
protocol using ELRP to detect loops in the network.
Now from the reading I take that I have to use elrp with another portocol to block certain ports to prevent loops. There are many references to using ESRP, which seems to be Extreme's propriatry protocol for VRRP, I am not needing that at this time.
All I want to do is prevent someone from plugging in an Avaya IP phone in one jack and plugging the computer port into another live jack instead of a pc.

Not sure if this helps you very much, but what you want to look at is spanning tree protocol (STP) or multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP).

I wish I had a good example config for you but I unfortunately don't. I remember looking at it a while back and thinking that MSTP was what we would need to use if we wanted to prevent what you are talking about.

Well I am exploring that option, but it just doesn't seem right. STP is for redudant links between switches, to really for loop detection/prevention on access ports. They use to have something for loop detection/prevention but not in EXOS.

well I have setup STP and that did prevent that paticular senrio. It work with a cable between jacks on the switch and using a dumb switch, but not a phone. I also tested enabling lbdetect on the ports and that worked as well, but not on the phone senrio. I just can't believe the phones have something in the firmware to prevent this.

well I would like to know how, neither from what I read have anything to do with it.

it is STP you want to look at. i've just configured a few stacks for STP because the phone installers didn't know to/bother with it and an unknowing person took down our network...

specifically, you want to look at edge-protection on host ports...

something like this...
[tt]configure stpd s0 ports edge-safeguard enable 1:1-48 2:1-48 3:1-48[/tt]

Well it has been awhile since i took this challenge on and I belive part of my problem was that I have extremeware and EXOS, I believe that is an EXOS option. I kinda gave up on it, I only have 3 EXOS switches and they are all in production, didn't have a lot of chance to try and test on those switches. I will look into it though.
