I wonder if anyone can tell me the difference between LoopGuarded and LoopUnguarded in terms of the way a Norstar CICS PLUS use analogue lines?

I have a system that I need to allow DISA on and the only way I can get a line to allow configuration as an Auto Answer line is if it's defined as Loop Guarded.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the Central Office/Exchange doing a loop reversal or similar on the line to signify end of call?

This system is based in the UK. I don't know if BT can set a line up for disconnect supervison?

Regards
Clive

You need it guarded so the line drops when the outside caller hangs up first: the system needs to see the drop in loop current from the CO to drop the line otherwise it will stay busy.

AH ok - so the Central office exchange would also need to be setup to send that 'drop' signal too? UK BT lines don't do this as standard, but I am not sure if they can be setup by BT to do that.

In the States, we call it Disconnect Supervision, but it sounds like the same thing. I'm sure the CO can set it up.
