Hi guys,
Prob a fairly basic question.. but could anyone explain what exactly forward and reverse lookup zones do, and whats the difference between them??
Thanks guys
Forward lookup zones are like your phone book. They map the names of things to numbers.
Reverse lookup zones are like those services on a phone company website that take a phone number and backwards resolve it to a name.
Each owner of a public subnet is responsible for maintaining a reverse lookup zone. These zones are less important on internal networks, but occasionally you'll see a need for them. I typically create them when I set up a fresh DNS environment.
