After 13 or so years with Aloha, mostly good years, last few terrible, I'm thinking about changing out software completely. I was wondering if anyone here can comment on Future POS. I met with them recently and saw a demo. With 9 terms and all that time and money invested in Aloha thia is a tough decision. Does anyone know of any good reasons not to switch to Future POS. This forum seems to be a great knowledge base of unbiased advise, most of the time. Can anyone recommend another comparable POS geared to the individual restaurant but as powerful as Aloha?

Also, if I were to quit Aloha, is the any resale value in my HASP and license. I've heard everything from yes to no. A few years ago the local dealer (about the largest in the world) said they could reactivate the license with a new owner at 50% cost. This was said pre Radiant. Any new insight into this. Much appreciated.

First off for curiosity satisfaction, why dump Aloha? There is nothing "unfixable". I have taken many happy to completely furios Aloha users and after a very short time have a stable of very happy users that have so few issues I may starve! Thank goodness many are very old systems that need hardware replacement. By the way I work coast to coast. :)

I have seen a little bit of Future. In my area there have been 3 installs that I am aware of. 1 is still using and the other 2 went to court with the guy that sold it. I am sure that was the fault of the installer and not the software but I would look for references big time.

Guessing you are in FL?

Correct on the Florida guess.
My frustrations with Aloha are probably more dealer related but also Radient related too since the fish rots from the head down. I posted a few weeks ago to which you kindly responded about the Frequent Buyer upgrade database not working. Your advice was good especially about doing a reinstall. I passed this on to the dealer, they shrugged it off and said they have a call into Radient. I would easily attempt to do the reinstall myself but I respect the fact that if this is an open issue with the dealer I'll let them decide. At least until I decide to get rid of the dealer. It's been 6 weeks and still no data from Frequent Buyer.
Maybe this is tha last straw syndrome. I don't purchase their maintenance agreements so I pay hourly. All my issues arise from upgrades or tweaks on their part. I feel like I pay $500 hr. because an issue that should take a knowlegible tech 1 hour max to troubleshoot (via pcanywhere) takes around 5 hours, sometimes more. I'm not exaggerating as I have paid invoices with the issues stated on them and ridiculous hours billed.

I kind of remember a TV commercial some years back about all these great big corporations bragging how big they are; the last guy says "We're soooooo BIG....I don't even know what we do"!

Well that's my dealer. They have some great people working for them that really know Aloha but good luck trying to get to them. All my support calls start with "What do you see on the screen right now". (1st level support, give me top level already)

If you say you're available then how do we do this. If I had good goto support person then I wouldn't mind keeping Aloha around a bit longer.

BTW My original Frequent Buyer issue, still nowhere, no word, nada. How do I contact you.

Let me know what your Hasp is licensed for. Version, # of terminals, other programs (Edc, inventory, etc). Ill make you an offer. Thanks.

8 terms, v5.3.29 +EDC, Frequent Buyer, Gift Card (real one) and inventory. Same hasp used for all upgrades last month.

I may be slightly biased as I do work for a POS company. We are based out of Colorado and are quite competive with many Aloha features. "Aspex POS", Our company, websites can be find at Or if you wanted to call you can reach us at 303.938.9696. If you want further information feel free to contact me at Rob dot W at aspexpos dot com

I would hate to see you dump Aloha for a lesser product over support issues. There are options... for Aloha support and for "module" support,(inventory etc.).

Let me know what you are looking for and I am confident I can get you in touch with success.

RosemarysBaby,

I'm really curious of where you're located because 13 years with Aloha would put you in the realm of one of the oldest non-corp Aloha users.

I first ran into Aloha in '93, installed th first Aloha 100% Windows version in '94 (in Florida) and worked with Ibertech/Aloha until 2002.

Please clue me in; we may have crossed paths over those years.
