Hi All,

I've got a client with an old custom Clipper app. They have a disk of RESCUE5 decompiled UDF files. I am not sure what version of Clipper the app was written in. All I know it is DOS based and it was written in Clipper.

If I wanted to purchase a copy of Clipper, can anyone suggest a source. And can anyone elaborate on Clipper versions? (Summer 87, 5.3)

Thanks

Hi, MSC

Ca-Clipper 5.2 is available at
Clipper Summer 87 is an old version of clipper which was widely used in its day but mostly supplanted by Clipper 5 which was brought out by Computer Associates after they acquired it. Most people say Clipper 5.2e is the best version - pretty well debugged. There was a version 5.3 which was 5.2e plus a graphical interface but it has a bad rep and I myself have never even seen it.

Clipper 5 has a much more extensive library of built in functions and is more modular. Also there are a lot of 3rd party libraries available for it. Most summer 87 programs will compile and run in clipper 5 as long as they don't use too many variables. Summer 87 has Y2K issues and limited index file support that make it susceptible to corruption when files get large.

I think 5.2e is your best bet in DOS.
