I am considering making the move from Backup Exec to Commvault Galaxy Express and would greatly appreciate your feed back both positive and negative on making the move.

Are you just making a single backup site? If so Commvault is alright it is policy based and not job based like BE. It will take a few days to get use to how CV works from BE. I made the switch from BE9 to CV5.9 and have had some difficulties with remote media agents which has been a nightmare. CV5.9 has some good features but the trick is making it all work properly and for a good length of time. This is my review let me know if you want to know more.

Hi

I've implemented CV into a few companies...mainly replacing BE and Arcserve & usually the install goes very smoothly (much easier than Netbackup & Legato Networker).

Obviously different people may experience different problems dependant on the setup of their environment but, I usually find that once these are sorted out then CV runs quite smoothly and you should see some great improvements in backup/restore speeds and the way that you handle your backups as there are loads of good features in CV and reporting is very good.

Get yourself a 30 day eval license and you will see if it's for you.

I had received a few other comments about CV and remote media agent problems. So I went with EMC/Dantz Retrospect which is working fine.

CV still sounds like a good product I just did not have the time or want to take additional risks. Thanks for the return post.
