I am looking to purchase Crystal Reports 8.5. Along with developing reports I am also looking to create and print employee pay checks on blank check paper stock along with a check stub and the MICR font encoding that goes along the bottom of the check. Does anyone know of or has anyone had any experience along this line, that is being able to creat checks with Crystal Reports???

the printing of checks isn't a problem....not so sure if the special font at the bottom ,MICR font, is available. Jim Broadbent

I suppose though that all that is required is that the font be installed on the computers using the reports and it will be available Jim Broadbent

MICR Fonts are available. Many accounting packages actually use crystal to print their checks. Mas90 is a package that I can guarantee you supports this.

Find a Mas90 consultant somehwere and I am sure you can get the font. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

I know very little about MICR, but I always assumed that this font also required a different ink than the rest of the check. Is that true, or is it the same ink? I thought the M was for magnetic - which required some type of metalic ink. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

You're right, Ken. (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition).

You can utilise the font with Crystal if you're using a printer with MICR ink. Trouble is, only a few HP printers are compatible with the toner, I think...

If that is true, it would be difficult to print a check on blank check paper, unless the whole check was printed with Magnetic ink - which I would think might confuse the MICR reader. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Thanks dgillz,
What is or who is Mas90???

Kenhamady,
The whole check is in fact printed with MICR ink but the scanner only scans that portion of the check that has the MICR encoding.

Naith,
Don't know about other printers, I am currently using HPIII printers that accomodate the MICR ink cartridge.
