I have written a small Windows app using VB6 and would very much like some people to test it.

My application is called Quick Lauch and it is used to launch QBasic with any *.bas file from windows explorer.
Once you double click a *.bas file, Quick Lauch runs, confirms the file to load into QBasic and then allows you to select which version of QBasic to use - depending on which versions you have, and which library file to use - be it the default QBasic library, or a user defined library. If you don't want to use a library file you dont have to!

I'm not sure if there are people out there that need this sort of application, but I use it all the time now!

So I would like someone to try it out, tell me what problems they have (if any) and any ideas they have to make it better.

I have also created a help file, and a readme.doc

The program needs to be associated with bas files. If you dont know how to do this then I have a set up file that will do that for you, or I can just give the main file, which is much smaller.

The more people who can test this application the better. My aim is to put it on the net as freeware, but I dont want to give it away until I know it will work on a pc other then mine!

If you don't want to keep the file then you can uninstall.

Thanx for any helpers!

I'll try yours if you'll try mine.

Many users are reluctant to test unknown software from unknown sources. Your first step might be to establish a form of credibility. Become a member at Tek-Tips.com, prove that your intentions are honorable and there is a reasonable expectation that your code is stable.

I think your idea is superb but I probably wouldn't install it on a "format-me-now" junker unless I felt accountability was a part of the package.

Thanx for youre help!
I am now a member of tek-tips!

I have put a web page up on the net so people can read a bit more about it and then decide if they want to give it a go or not.

How do people get there programs tested if no one is willing to try them?

I think that im on to something here that many qbasic users will find a great use for - I have never come accross this type of application for qbasic before.

Its sad that I put my time and effort into a good idea only to find people wont try it ;-(

I'll try it. If your web site is an indication of your sincerity and skill, I won't mind at all.

I hope that answered your second question.

I have an associate who is skilled at finding ingenious ways to crash applications and OSes (he's been known to format hard drives several times a day). I'll see if he won't take a look, too.

Since you are planning to release this as freeware, have you considered releasing the raw VB6 project? It's much easier to troubleshoot and offer suggestions when executing from the IDE.

Just a thought. The programming forums at Tek-Tips are filled with code samples that allow the users to test and debug without dealing with the cryptic Microsoft error handling conventions.

I have thought about your idea to make the vb project open to other vb users.

I don't think that would be a good idea! I'm very new to VB6 and i'm sure my code is messy! I think i'll stick to giving the exe away!

Until I can better my skills atleast!
QBasic is fun! Go see what I've done!
