I think my unit suffered a lightning hit in through the MOH line. When the HOLD button is pressed on any keyset, the caller "goes away" even through the line flashes as if he were on hold, AND , you will be unable to select any CO line from the 8 choices on the keyset for around 30 seconds. After that the CO lines become available again. Same thing if you press HOLD just to listen to the MOH...
As long as none of the users try using HOLD... everything works fine.

Already pulled all the connections to the box, and added them back one-at-a-time thinking there was something external to the box doing this... checked all lines on the 66 blocks, all the punches, all the in-house wall conections, etc. No luck.

No schematics or clue where to go next with it...
I think it's a zorched chip, but I don't know which...

bad news is the ksu is fried, good news is it's disposeable. may have been through the moh, sonunds more like the power side. the hold is killing either your power side or the master clock, it's internal to the cpu, 9 times out of 10

only possible attempt, remove everything you can. leave one phone and one trunk. test that, you may have problems in more then one place, if the problem persist with min config, try ebay.. if it goes away, add trunks back, one at a time, testing after each change. then add sets back

Kinda the way I went about it already. At first I thought there was a CO that had a problem at the street... the incoming lines are split prior to going in to the KSU, so you can pick them up with a std 1A2 handset (or plug in a fax, or whatever...) I found a good dial tone and could call in & out & IDENT each line... whether they are plugged in to the KSU or not (of course) so I'm pretty sure the lines in are all good.

as I chased things around checking out lines it started to get really confusing as the reset time for the thing is about what it takes to go plug in or unplug a handset...
never tried it all standing "at the box"... tried checking by unhooking handsets at their respective rooms...

finally got it nailed down to what is actually going on but pulling everything standing there looks like a good option just to be sure...

Yep. Also started on just going through all the programming basics (we don't mess with voicemail and all that such...just basic switchstuff) and ... when got all the way through to #63(?) - Door stuff... theres no response to the prompt... in other words, I cannot choose any DSS sets to ring when the door box button is pressed... I get the programmin menu option, but that's it... no matter what DSS buttons I try, I can't get beyond the prompt to assign any stations to ring when the door buzzer is pressed...

Another hint there's a fried chip somewhere? Any bot got any peanut oil??
