I have recently taken my win 95 pc and done a clean win 2000 install. Everything came up well, except it is asking me for a Multimedia Audio Controller. The sound card is part of the motherboard. Unfortunatly I have no more info to share. The motherboard is not marked.

I just did a clean install with Win2000. Everything seems fine, expect for Multimedia Audio Controller. I don't know much my motherboard, because the motherboard manual that they (Hewlett Packard) gave me doesn't even look like the one I have in the computer. My Hewlett Packard's model number is Pavilion 6545C. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me out.

How I restored Multimedia Audio Controller on a SOYO motherboard after upgrading to Windows 2000.

Go to suggested above by JohnS9051. Download the driver for VIA 686 Sound driver (AC97). Install or re-install the audio driver using the unzipped contents of this driver. W2K will tell you that it is only a close match but it worked fine on my system.

I recently upgraded from 98 to 2000... My Multimedia Audio Controller is also not working, and my sound cuts out within a few seconds of logging on.

I have a Chaintech motherboard, with a VIA chipset, however I am using an Aureal Vortex SQ1500 sound card. Can I find drivers for this, and more importantly, should this even be affecting my non-onboard sound card?

I just reformated my HP Pavilion 8496 with Windows 2000 and now I have no sound and it says I have no Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Input Device, and PCI Simple Communications Controller. How do I fix this?

Everytime i try to install win98SE my computer hangs
when he is detecting plug and play devices with 13 min
of setup time to go.

I have a gforce2mx200 graphics card and a elitegroup k7s5a
mainboard. i have used ddram didn't work, sdram didn't
work either. When i start installing with only the graphics
card thereis no problem at all, and win98 detects plug and play devices and crosses my magical 13 mins barrier

A really good link for older or outdated drivers:

requires a login setup, takes a few minutes, and ends up being something lame, like user:driver | pass:guide - or something....but very useful if you need older or unusual drivers.

WOW, I just thought it was me that was having problems with audio controllers when upgrading the OS. Well here's what I did. I bought this HP from a friend so I didn't know much about the insides but it came with a recovery cd, and on disk 2 it told me what audio drivers worked for win 98. I looked at the name of it and then searched for a win 2000 version of it.
Good luck everyone

Using a EP-7KXA m/b and my audio is an AC97 PCI. Any tips for finding a download for the multimedia audio driver?

I have recently installed win 98 to the old P3 computer of the motherboard of American Megatrends-Amibios A6156P5 V2.4 050399, Bios ID #61-0503-001169-00101111-071595-440BX/ZX-1440B000-H. Everything went through well, except the Multimedia Audio Controller can not be found. The sound card was built-in part of the motherboard. I have tried everything but with the hopeless. Please help !!!

I am helping out a friend who reinstalled windows XP and lost there sound drivers. They have a Compact Presario S3500CL and i went to for there drivers, but found they didn't have an actual audio driver.... I now dislike Compact more than ever.... Plz help if you happen to know a Sound driver that would work for this compy.

Really having a problem after installing windows XP. I now have no network or sound. Device manager shows that these components are not installed and windows cannot find the software.
Multimedia audio controller
SM Bus controller
Video controller (vga compatible)
Ethernet controller

The machine was built by a "friend" who has moved abroad and has left no information on the type or name of any of the components. Is there any way that I can get drivers for these that would atleast get it working right.

I am having the same problem as many. No multimedia audio controller driver. This happened after upgrading to Win 2000 from Win ME. I have gone round and round trying to find the correct driver with no luck. I've given up several times and have just lived without sound for months now. If anyone has any idea about what I need to make my sound work, I would be eternally grateful. I'm only a beginner with tech stuff on my computer, but this is what I do know:

I have a Compaq Presario 5001SR
It has a Pctel Chip (PCT789T-C1) 800 or 850mhz
I think I have integrated audio on the motherboard? I say this because when I opened the case I couldn't find anything that looked like a stand alone soundcard.
I also saw Uwave written on the motherboard along with KUA0C10942.

I've tried downloading numerous audio drivers from soundblaster and from the compaq website. Whatever compaq has is just plain wrong. I've been to multiple driver websites looking and nothing I have downloaded has worked.

Any ideas anyone?!
