Can anyone assist me with the following:

I have installed XP successfully on a Dell Vostro 260 Desktop but unfortunately don't have drivers for the Ethernet, PCI etc. The Dell website doesn't have anything available.

Best regards

Did you try searching by the Service Code number on the back of the tower? I was able to manually search and you are correct there isnt any listed there.

I have had luck chatting with Dell about this issue and they will usually provide you with an FTP link to some drivers they locally have, that is if there ever were any drivers for XP created for this machine.

Have you tried looking at the parts Manufacturers for drivers? For instance look in Conexant's website for audio drivers, and Nvidia's or Radeon's website for the Video drivers.

There is of course a strong possibility that there are no XP drivers for that machine.

As not all Manufacturers have kept making XP drivers for the newer PC's.

Here is a good place to look for dell stuff, if you can find what you are looking for. ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/

It's getting to be funny that people assume that there will be XP drivers available on new PCs continuing into the future. I see none listed on the Dell site as XP is not an option in the driver download area for that machine. I know Microsoft wants XP to go away and probably the OEMs do as well.

A 5 minute Google search doesn't find any XP drivers for that machine either

Bazil2:

Below is a link off Realtek's website that I can confirm works with XP. I will be working on the remaining drivers as well, please provide any working drivers that you may have found.

Select WinXP and WinServer 2003 Driver 5.788 2011/8/3

Thank you!

That may be one that you have found, but wouldn't it be nice to know that if you go to the trouble of searching all around and trying different drivers that you won't end up ONE short??

That is to say, that the machine is actually supported to run XP. To summarize: it's difficult to swim upstream.
