Hi everyone,

We have been looking for a good What's new script for weeks. The only one we found was this one:
# File: WhatsNew.pl
# Version: 1.0
# Author: Angus McIntyre
# Date: 25.09.94
# Updated: 17.10.95

We are having big problems getting it to work as we think it is a bit old for our current version of Perl (5).

Can anyone PLEASE point us to a good script that you know works and that has a demo?

Many thanks!!!

What does your What's new script actually do? We might be able to point you in the right direction if we know that.

Hi Fortytwo

A "What's New" script looks at what has been modified / added "recently" on a website. "Recently" being a value in days that can be changed in the script. It then reports a list of such pages and their respective modify dates and updates a "What's New" page on the website with this information automatically.

Does that make sense to you?

Thanks for your help . . .

Sarah

I don't know of an off the shelf script that will do exactly what you say, you might want to try cgi-resources.com. Alternatively you might want to get someone to write a script to do this for you.

Thanks

I just thought such a script must exist since most sites have a What's New page. We've successfully found FAQ, Poll, Calendar and Notice Board scripts so why we can't find a What's New one is strange! What do other people do?

Personally I would write one myself, or just do it by hand :) If the volume of new stuff is not going to be that great, I guess doing it by hand is not that much of a pain.

Hi Blaidd, see "Execute perl cgi prog on clicking hyperlink" item as the script there generates a table of files, and indicates any less than 30 days old as new by putting new.gif beside it.

It will require rework, but the bones of what you're looking for are there
