bfam - isn't that anti-virus (as opposed to anti-spyware)?

I reccommend Microsoft AntiSpyware and Spybot Search & Destroy, the best two in my experience.

it looks to me that microsoft anti spy is/has been replaced by DEFENDER.. check microsofts downloads it is a beta version...

Stand up wherever you are, go to the nearest window and yell as loud as you can, 'I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore.'

Yes it seems Defender is the new one from microsoft.

Must admit, on first impressions, I prefer the AntiSpyware product. Wont be updating to Defender until I have to.

Wonder why they have done that...personally I find MSAS to be extremely easy to use and manage. Dont see the logic in pushing the product and getting a good reputation for it and then changing!!

I wonder if Defender will also be free long term?

Windows Defender will be probably also shareware or pay for software

AdAware is good - although i rate it third, behind Spybot S&D and Microsoft Anti Spyware.

I tend to use a combination of these 3 products.

last week, i found out that none of the anti-virus and anti-spyware software really work the way they should. i.e. remove malicious and damaging bugs from your machine. i found a program imbeded in a neighbor's machine with the name: 3 square boxes and a double quote. this "program" was in the startup, registry, and god knows where else. i ran spybot, ewido, hjt, ms-giant, adaware, mcafee, norton and 2 other ones that i can't remember. none could find this virus. and i had a heck of a time getting rid of mcafee and norton. my question is, how can microsoft let a software update its registry or imbed itself in the startup with a name like that!? what's the criteria for finding virus (viri)? would a legitimate company create a program with the name i mentioned above?
only god knows.

so how did you manage to get rid of it...I agree, the antivirus programs are pretty rubbish...
