I look for information to prepare the CUA/CUE certification.
Who can help?

Thanks
Holm

Holm,

I took the CA-Education UT 200 and UT 210 classes, passed the 270-112 and 270-128 exams to gain the CUA certification. Then I took the UT 245 and UT 250 classes in January to prepare for the 270-117 and 270-129 exams, which I will be sitting this Friday and Monday respectively, after several months of hands-on practice, and will gain the CUE certification, assuming I have studied sufficiently. For all CA cert exams, I use the course material, notes from the classes, and hands-on. I am not aware of any third party prep material, if such exists.

Good Luck,

Joe

So, what would one do with a CA certification? Does it include all CA products? How much have you spent on your certification? It sounds very exciting, and I would like to know more from someone with first-hand experience. Thanks.

cg,

I suppose the CUA/CUE certs are only of value if you work, or seek to work, in a Unicenter shop. These certs are geared towards mastery of Unicenter and its advanced features. There are other CA certs which deal with other CA products. I spoke with the head of the Education Division at CAWorld about the future of the certification program. He told me that with the rollout of Unicenter 3.0, the current CUA/CUE certs would still be valid for awhile, since there is a large installed base of Unicenter 2.x in the marketplace. An upgrade path will be provided for those who wish to renew with the new product. However, CA is revamping their cert program and will include a practical lab which will be a business scenario for the applicant to solve using Unicenter. This effort will be judged by a panel and must be passed to gain the cert. I think this will increase the value of the CA certs somewhat, in a similar manner to the practical portion of the CCIE. [Somehow, I doubt if this will be enough to give the CUA/CUE the cachet of the CCIE, but it puts it head and shoulders over other exam-only certs] The inclusion of practical lab work contributes mightily to separating the pretenders from the contenders and helps avoid the issue of the "paper cert", which was the downfall of the original MCSE program.

Good Luck,
Joe

I recently (Sept 2002) attended a Unicenter course at CA and found the instructor was a little unclear and when questioned, he seemed to lack the in-depth product knowledge. I believe the instructor was a contractor to CA at the time, hope they aren’t paying him too much to turn pages!!

As before this is a good link…
Good luck if you’re bothering with the exams.
