Hi all,

Having installed a Legato client for RedHat Linux that backups through the network, we encounter a problem where, after starting the group, Legato waits about 2,5 hours before taking any action on the client. Then is executes a script and backups the data with the velocity it should have.

The group has only 1 client and executes a savepnpc script which does a dump of a Mysql database. The script isn't accessed after the 2,5 hours mentioned before.

The Legato server is V7.0 (don't blame me) on Windows2000 server.

What could be the problem?

Thanks, Enrique.

As a test you could drop the savepnpc and just let the save run as usual, although the backup would be useless for a database restore.

Does it still take 2,5 hours before anything happens? If not, you should check your savepnpc script and any other script that might be calling.

What version is the client running? There have been several issues with savepnpc previously so it might be a bug in that particular relase.

Hi,

We have version 7.0 build 322 on the server and the package at the Linux client is: lgtoclnt-7.0-1.i686.rpm

This is weird. I would support Rif123's suggestion simply to avoid potential problems. If NW could not contact the client in general it should time out pretty soon.

Something must delay the start of the script.

Solved!

The question was the IP in /etc/hosts on the client was forgotten to change in the past... Probably nsrexecd looks up its IP or hostname through this file.

We checked also the DNS lookup and reverse lookup and changed everything to lowercase letters on the DNS server. Just to be sure.

Now it works. Thanks for your ideas/ assitance.
