We have setup a new mail server, the old one has this config:
- Windows NT Server 4, SP5
- Excange 5.5
- Netshield 4.5 SP1

the new server has this config:
- Windows 2000 Server SP3
- Excange 5.5 SP4
- GroupShield 4.5
- VirusScan 7.0

the problème is when we shutdown the old server, outlook 2000 on some PCs dont work correctly, outlook take a long time to send an email with more than 2 destinations, an some times outlook hang.

I had the same problem after migrating exchange to a new server. I found two possible answers

If found that the Outlook address Book was retaining reference to the old server and would try to search the old contacts folder when sending mail. When the server was still on the network, it would do this but ignore the fact that excahnge was not on the server. Once we swithced the server off, the outlook client would hang for a while when checking addresses.

The answer is to remove all entires in the Outlook address book, then remove the servers and add it back in. Restart outlook (using exit and log off), then go back to the users contacts folder and enable it for outlook address book

This certainly sorted my problem.
