I am using Crystal 9.0 with an Oracle 9.2 database. I have a field that is LONG type in table. When I place it in the report it only shows the first couple of characters. I have read thru many of the posts on this subject, but still cant quite get it to work. My driver is Oracle ODBC. I have tried SUBSTRING and LEFT in SQL Editor, but it still doesnt work. Has anyone actually been able to pull a LONG Oracle field into Crystal?

Yes. But the real problem is that the SQL that Crystal creates isnt even pulling the data in regardless of the size of the display field.

You shouldn't use the Oracle supplied ODBC driver with CR 9, use the Crystal supplied Oracle ODBC driver, or better yet, select Create New Connection and select Oracle Server, this is a native connection and much faster.

I dont have the Oracle Server option. Is this using 'remote connections' in the windows os? Or is this something that comes with Crystal?

It's supplied with Crystal.

You must have the Oracle client installed prior to installing Crystal.

Try going to Add or Remove programs and change the Crystal install and make sure that all of the data sources are installed to the local drive, perhaps it will set it up correctly.
