I would like to run a long fiber patch cord from an MICS to a station module about a 1000 feet away. I know I should be able to put the station module next to the MICS and run copper about that far, or farther with SAPs. Someone also told me that I could run on fiber using module extenders. I just wondered if anyone knew if and why it wouldn't be possible to have a long Norstar fiber made, and connect the two directly.

thank you,
Rob C.

if you use a SAP on each station the extended range would then be 2500ft. The phones will will 1000ft without a SAP.

The only way you can extend a fiber cable is by using the Mod Extenders. The longest Fiber I have ran w/o the extender would be 15 feet. I haven't tried anything further.

rfcc- I dont know if anyone has tried to custom extend the fiber. Why dont you splice it and let us know.

You could bring the cable to a fiber place, have them splice in a couple thousnd feet of whatever, then just connect the cabinets with the fiber still on a spool to see if it works.

The worst that could happen is you destroy the fiber cable, which you can get for 15-30 bucks.

Nam55 and BKRike,

Thanks for your help. I think we're going to go with the copper, and look at using the module extenders later if we need to.

thank you,
Rob C.
