Hi,
I have recently aquired (was given) a Merlin Legend System, Release 4, and a Merlin Mail 3 (the wall-hanging type). The systems were delivered without documentation.

My configuration is very simple (in fact, the Merlin system may be an overkill...but free is free). I have three incoming POTS lines, xxx1, xxx2, xxx3. Numbers hunt to xxx1. There are 6 inside extensions.

A frigid?reset has been performmed returning the system to (what I believe) is the factory state (VM has not been reset, although passwords, etc. should be factory defaults).

Despite reading the online manuals at Avaya, I cannot determine which ports to use for the VM (or at least how to program them). When dialing to 770, I hear a ring, followed by a short tone which almost sounds like a call-waiting beep. VM/AA never picks up.

Is there any type of 'quick setup' guide for such a simple installation? Does anyone have any pointers for the intial setup of the Legend to the VM/AA?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You need an analog T&R module (012 T&R) preferrably with ring generator. Extend however many extensions your VM system is setup for (the voice cards in the VM), then add those extension numbers as 'members' to group 770.

Call each extension individually to insure the VM is picking them up. If all is set up correctly, when you dial 770 you should be answered by the VM system

Thanks! I can finally get into the VM, however, the AA does not seem to answer when I call from the outside. Could you tell me how to have incoming calls picked up by the AA?

Thanks again

The method I prefer is to use an unassigned calling group, say 771, leave all the defaults except go to overflow > enter 770 > enter > call based > (change entry to 99) > exit > time based > (change entry to 1 ((For immediate answer)) or more for delayed answer ((allow about 3 seconds for each ring, i.e. a 12 second delay would be about 4 rings)) > exit > lines/pools > 771 > enter the lines and/or pools you want answered by the AA. In the VM, assign mailbox 771 as AA 1. If you have immediate answer, and the console has the line appearances, be sure to set them for delayed ring on her phone.
