I have a mics with a call pilot. Over the past few weeks my customers phone has been hacked with long distance phone calls mostly to Europe and Africa. AT&T tells them that they cannot restrict the dialing (which is a lie). In their ccr tree dial 3 says if this is a life or death emergency and dials out to a local answering service. So I can't restrict those ports. What is the best way to secure this system for call calls within the U.S.?
 
First create a restriction filter with 011,0,*, and #. Apply it to the lines. Then modify the class of service for the mailboxes to deny outbound transfer. Then tell your people not to use 1234, 1111 - 9999 as passwords.
 
This is what I've done and I've had pretty good success.

* Build filter restricting 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 and assign to Voice Mail ports. If you use remote notification or out dialing with your voice mail then build over rides for only the numbers you use and put in this filter

* If you do not use Pick Codes (101) then build a filter restricting 101 and assign to all Lines.

* If you do not use Pick Codes (101 dialing) or make International calls, make your Carrier aware of this and have them block it if possible.

* Remove all unassigned mailboxes

* Ensure employees change the manufacturer’s default password immediately upon being assigned a voicemail box.

* Train employees not to use easily-guessed passwords such as their phone numbers,
local number or simple number combinations.

* Should have users change mailbox passwords minimum every 90 days.

* Discuss possible use of Authorization codes with you provider.

* Work with provider for any other steps they can provide or suggest for you.

I created restriction filter 25 with the restrictions mentioned and assigned it to line 001 for testing. It didn't deny anything. Do I need to assign it to each set as well? What am I missing?
 
We had a situation at one site, where some nice person in the local community, was pulling down our lines about once a month, hooking up their analog phone to the POTS lines and making calls all over the world. The only way to stop that is to have the telco restrict the lines. If you do not have any need to call internationally, it is an easy fix and the Telco are responsible for any fraudulent charges on them at that point.
 
Sounds like you failed on programming the restrictions somewhere.

When it works you get the Tone over the speaker and "Call Restricted" on the display.

Make sure its line 1 you pressed to dial out, do F*0 and press line 1 and make sure its 001.

You can restrict lines or sets or both.
Example is if nobody what so ever needs to dial overseas then restrict the lines.


As a test do Filter 26
Restriction # 1 = 0

Now tell line 001 to use Filter 26
Press line 1 and dial 0

Curlycord, that is exactly what I did. I even went further and went into a set and created the same restriction and assigned it to one set still not able to restrict. I can't figure it out.
 
When I tested this on my home Norstar it did nothing. When I went to my customer yesterday and programed the exact same thing it worked great. Not sure why I couldn't make it work at home. Thanks for all your help.
