We have quite a few people (non-employees) in and out of our building for conferences, meetings, seminars, etc. We would like to have some sort of access code when making long distance phone calls that only the staff knows. This would be in order to avoid outsiders from doing personal business on our dime. We have CallManager version 3.0 and Cisco IP Phones 7960. Any thoughts?

This is not a service that call manager provides, however, it is a service that you telco probably provides. Ask them if they can add an access code for long distance to the line, and call manager should never know the difference.

This is working for a couple of my customers. The user dials the number, Call Manager routes the call and sends the digits to telco, then telco answers with another tone. At that tone, the user enters there access code, and then telco completes the call.

It is possible to have an access code implemented on your CCM. In most businesses 9 is used as an access code to place a PSTN call. In your route pattern config, you can specify a different access code than 9 for certain calls. For example, local PSTN calls can be placed by dialing 9 with a route pattern of 9.xxxxxxx (9.7-digit), 9.xxxxxxxxxx (9.11-digit), etc. If you eliminate the entry for 9.(11-digit) and replace it with 299.(11-digit) then you have made impossible for people to place long distance calls unless they dial 299 first. If you keep this a secret amongst those in your organization, then you have successfully implemented very rudimentary (yet effective) outbound call restriction.
