Dear All :
Suddenly we are facing a problem with the exchange 2003 Srv.
the logs are being created in an extremely large accounts which ate all the free space in the HDD ...

backuping the database cleared the logs - but it starts again and again ...

we are now defragmenting the database to shrink it - but 3 hours passed away withonly 14% completed - and the staff are almost here in teh company !

any fast solution ?

Backing up the database is SUPPOSED to clear the logs. The logs are generated by emails. They are logging the emails - this is by design.

If this is filling the hard disk, either move something off that disk or move the logs to another volume.

I don't have all this huge ammount of emails - the logs are almost 70 GBytes now !and they used to be 10 GBytes !

The logs should be cleared daily as part of the backup, as Zelandakh mentioned. Are you saying you're generating 70GB of logs per day?

And there isn't a need to do an offline defrag of the database unless your the amount mentioned in your 1221 entries in the event logs are more than 30% of the size of your database.

3 hours and only 14%? You don't mention how big the database is. I've seen an offline defrag take DAYS.

Enable circular logging. Not a desirable thing if you need to restore from tape, but it will help in a pinch while you figure out what is going on with your system.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Netwalker1-

I'm facing the same issue here, what do you mean by Local Storage ?? You just created a new store in ESM? Or are you referring to adding attached storage via external HD.

just curious and thanks for any info

geranimo.

we created a new Mail Box Store and started to move the mail boxes from the old store to the new one ...
of course we made it on another partition becase the 1st one was almost full ...
