Is it possible to logon to MAC OS X with a users W2K AD user account, and how?
The network is working, an I can map drives on W2K servers through the GUI and SMB.

So you have a Mac os X connecting to a windows 2k server with samba?

They you can connect by going to Go--Connect to server

and typing the ipaddress of the server

smb://ipaddress

You can also use this:

smb://Dell/SharedDocs" (without the quotes), where "Dell" is your computer's name, and "SharedDocs" is the volume or folder you are sharing on your PC.

You have to make sure the sharing is on on your windows unit.

Or answering the question, you go to workgroup manager, set the share and set the Windows sharing permissions.

You need to have the local user account set to administrator is you are running OS X 10.2.x.

If you are running 10.3, use AD rather than local permissions.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll try to clarify my problem. I can access a share on windows servers with the smd://ip-address. I'm running 10.3.
What I want is, I wondered if it would be possible to use the AD for user verifications, so that ex. Domain Users in AD have logon rights to OS X, so user can just use their windows account to log on to OS X. I've tried to configure the directory connection in OS X to the windows AD, and that seems to work. But that still won't allow me to use windows account, when loggin on to OS X. It's still only let's me choose local accounts.
Hope you can help.

I've just set this up myself.

There's lots of info here -
You have to use the directory access utility.

Also remember, you will have to type in your ad username.you won't be able to select from a list.

You'll be able to search the directory but not browse it.

Max,

Yes you can do it. (I have.) Short answer:

Your Mac must be configured for ActiveDirectory and be a member of the AD domain. You will need the Directory Access tool and help from your system administrator to do this (he has to set up the permission for you to join.) The link babaton provided gives more detailed instructions.

Once this is done, there will be an "Other" user in the login screen - click it and you can type a AD user id and password to login.

Thanks. I'll try that today, and report back if it's working.
