I'm running windows 2003 server on my payroll server. after about 20 hours of running, nobody can access the server anymore. they will get "no logon servers are available to handle your request." I also notice that at that time the payroll software is pegging the server. What could be going on? Could it be the payroll software? It pulls the timeclocks constantly through an ethernet connection.

You don't mention the software package in use, but I'd suspect problems with it if it is pegging the CPU. Check witht he vendor to see if they have any patches that need to be installed, or perhaps your server is under the requirements for the product.

It sounds like your server is just too busy to respond to the login requests.

Perhaps you should consider a second DC, especially if you are using your one and only a line of business applications server.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

Seperate your DC form Payroll, what if you need to fix your DC your payroll department would be mad that the server is down, otherwise the above reply is correct.
