Hallo,
I dont know whether I am at the correct adress to ask you such a simple question. But I hope you can help me anyway.
I am a IT technician and I received a customer call to fix a problem with a CISCO 837 ADSL Router connected to a Windows XP Pro computer, configured as a backup server. I have used many other routers (like dlink or 3com routers) but have never configured a CISCO.
So I tried to login to the router in the same way as with other routers (using Internet Explorer and type in the address bar the IP address of the router.) But for some reason I cant get access to this cisco router with the usual 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 adress.
Do you know what is the correct (standard) IP adress?
All what I really want to do is to check out whether the router receives information from the ISP, and is therefore able to relay Internet Access. (which does not work)
I believe that once i manage to login to the router I should normally be able to see a "connected" status on the WAN side. (at least with other routers)
Since I could not get into the router, I tried to solve the problem from the windows side using the ipconfig command. So (using ipconfig /release) I released the dynamic IP and thereafter renewed the dynamic IP (DHCP)using IPconfig /renew in prompt mode (cmd).
Strange is that I dont get a Gateway (using ipconfig) for my adapter, only a IP address and a subnet. Windows appears to release the IP but it does not renew the IP using the ipconfig/ renew command. (its a network card configured to use a bridge connection and I refer to the Network bridge connection) Flushing the buffer did not help either. Its only reassigning the same IP without a gateway after restarting the router with a power off and on.
Please advise urgently.
Thank you very much,
Nordahl
PS?: The routers three TX lights do not flash as the should, but flash only twice upon restarting the router and than only one light remains permanently on.
