Logon Failur: the target account name is incorrect.

Hi Im receiving the above error msg when i try to login to my windows 2000 server. My network is using roaming profiles. WHen this error comes up, the user can not access any files on the server and his/her profile is not loaded.

Has anyone seen this problem.

I thought it might be a DNS, what do you think?

any help is appreciated.

We have one XP workstation that receives its IP from DHCP and is correctly listed in WINS and in DNS. It doesn't have any personal firewall installed and the XP Internet Connection Firewall is not enabled. Yet, no other PC can see it in Network Neighborhood/Places!! From that PC, you can map a drive to its shares (net use x: \\qcy0754\shared) but if you try it from any other PC, you get the "Logon Failure: the target account name is incorrect." error.

Any clues?

Thnx,
Linny

I fixed the problem by recreating the SID account on the domain controller.

Use the netdom password reset funtion. refer to ms Q288167
