I have an existing report developed in Crystal Reports XI that pulls most of it's data from our Pervasive SQL MRP database. We have been using this report for some time without problems but needed to add a unique/sequential document number each time the report is run.

I've created a Excel 2007 table that has one cell with a number that increments each time the file is accessed. I'm trying to use that number as a document number on the existing report. The excel spread sheet is not password protected and when I created a test report pulling just that number into a report it worked fine and incremented properly.

My problem: When I include the connection to the Excel spread sheet to the existing Crystal Report and run the report through crystal viewer I get a "logon error" and I'm not sure why. I don't get it without the excel connection and, as previously stated, the excel spread sheet has no password protection turned on.

Nelson - Did you ever get resolution to this issue? I have the same problem, although I think the problem is with the Excel DAO connection in general. IE I see the same issue even when no SQL database is included. Sure would make life easier to have a solution. Maybe a different connection type?

I never did figure this one out. I worked on it for a while and also had a consultant we work with looking into it but couldn't make it work. We are now upgrading the Pervasive SQL db to a SQL Server 2008 db which facilitates the numbering we needed.
