I know this must be a simple question, but i cannot figure it out! I have a logo that i "cut and pasted" into a template in photoshop. it is 4 1/2 inches wide originally, but transfers over at about 2 inches. the print size needs to be around 5 inches and i am hesitant to just scale it larger for fear of distorting the image. i haven't had this problem b4. what have i done and why wont it transfer at original size?
thanks!

..are both images in the same resolution? Sounds to me the logo image has a lower dpi that the file you are pasting into...

...4.5 inch image at 72dpi will paste into a 5 inch 300dpi file at 2.5 inches...

that is exactly it. the logo is a jpeg at 125 resolution. what is the best way to get it to my template (300 dpi)without compromising clarity? it is about 4 1/2 inch wide and i need it to be about 5 inches. thanks for the help!

...the best way is to re-source the original logo in vector format if possible and use that rather than what you have...

...failing that your stuck with what you have and will have to scale it up in your 300dpi file or resample it in the source file to the required width at 300dpi and transfer that over...

...if the logo is nothing more that black solids there is a method by resampling to higher resolution in greyscale, blur the edges slightly to smooth out if needed and then to convert it to lineart using the 50% threshold, then convert it back to rgb or cmyk, whichever you need...

Can i just open the jpeg in ps and then change the resolution to 300 and cut and paste it into my template? have i compromised anything by doing it that way?

... this is the choice, either res is up or scale it up in your 300 dpi file...

...use bicubic sharper interpolation if possible, you will always lose a bit of quality either way because you are having to build in pixels that don't exist...

...it is the same process to res up first or to scale it in the 300 dpi file assuming you use the same interpolation method bicubic or bicubic sharper...
