I can only log into XP via safe mode. I think there is a problem with the network. When attempting to log on normally, i am presented with a message that roughly says it's having problem checking the license along with an error code '0x80004005'. And, if i log on in safe mode with network, i also get this error so i am convinced it is possibly trying to connect with Microsoft to authenticate or whatever but cannot. Does anyone know how i can solve this or what the problem may be?
Appreciate ANY help...

Please look at a thread called Login error on this same page. I am having the same problem and so are some other people. It was suggested that editing a reg key will take care of this, I found that my version did not have that reg key and when I manually added it, still the error.
Let me ask you this, is your version a copy and the original CD? mine was and I am thinking this may be the problem.
Well I am sure between all of us here we can find a way around this darn error msg.

I have actually successfully installed it now. But i accomplished this by using a third hard disk to transfer stuff i needed from my main one and then formatted my old c: I then installed it all from scratch etc and it worked.
I did inevitably, lose some stuff and i am not sure if ultimately it was worth it. It mostly all works except i am getting annoyed by little things. For instance, my hard disks appear as unrecognised files(the icons for them) and when i double click them it opens a search thing. Yet, if i right-click them, i can chose open and see everything in them. Neway, good luck to you. Thanks for replying aswell. Mine is from the original cd, build version 2505 Evaluation copy.
