Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with resuming from standby mode within outlook 2003 sp1. I have an active wireless network connection with outlook running over it without experiencing any problems. Once the cliënt resumes from standby the wireless network link is re-established and all works fine except outlook. Outlook prompts for a login requesting only for the user's password. When the same thing is done throught a LAN connection this login prompt does not appear. When the password is entered the connection within outlook is established with exchange but why is it prompting for a password since we have single sign on in place?
Is anyone familiar with this behaviour?
thanks in advance

I would be your wifi card has a power saving mode.. you may want to disable that in the device manager

Hi,

Power saving is not set on the WLAN adapter. As mentioned network conection is restored and shares are also available without problems. These run credential checks for autohrisation purposes too. However once outlook is turned of and restarted back on it does not come up with the popup but connects through the WLAN without problems. I assume it has something to do the way outlook refreshes from certain information (credentials). It seems there is a difference between the way it handles this when trying to reconnect after WLAN connection has been restored and when outlook is exited and restarted.

If anyone has experienced the same i be happy to hear.
Meanwhile i try some things and reproduce the problem with sniffering the streams...

did you know there is an sp2 for outlook 2003?

I wonder if that would help anything

thx for the news, i'll look for possible changes in this update.

I upgraded to SP2 but it still does occur. Also i manage to pinpoint the problem a little bit more. Whenever a user logs in before the actual wireless connection is (re)established outlook will prompt for user credentials. But once a user logs in after the wireless connection has been (re)established the problem does not occur. It seems like outlook checks credentials once a wireless association is available but than still validation and authentication has to take place and also an ip-adress is needed before actual network communication is possible. I'm not sure if the same happens on a wired interface since i do not have eap activated on this medium.
Also i don't understand why outlook doesn't recheck the credentials because of the different phases the wlan connection goes through. There should be a build in retry without prompting the user to soon for his credentials.
Is anyone familiar with this or any suggestions available?

I think you are using cached login/password.
I also think that you are not using the windows wireless confi utility.
Try using the windows wireless config and see if the issue goes away.

Hi,

When searching through the Microsoft site, i noticed this is a know issue by Microsoft.

There is no real solution to it, only a workaround.
Guess we have to wait a while for a solution.

thanks all for trying to help me out here.
