can somebody please tell me how i can tell the extension on a merling legend 7.0.

Here's the situation. The customer had a merlin II. They switched out the processor. They kept all the merlin BIS phones. They did not put in a mlx card. So all programiing is done through SPM.
They have a merlin messaging R1 with a six port card.

there extensions seem to vary widely

they seem to have two digit and 4 digit extensions in the same system.

the regular extensiona are 10-20
the ports on the merling messaging are
7116 7117 7118 7119 7121 7122

I know extensions can be renumbered.
But what is the best way to do this

Thanks in advance
help

Under the main menu go to system renumber select single or block select extension enter the old ext than the new ext if you do a block you will need the logical Id which you can get through Maintenance

To find the extension number of an extension PORT:

Each card is in a Slot. The Processor is in slot "00". The rest of the slots count from "01" to" 15". The extension ponts count from Bottom to Top. So, a phone plugged into the bottom port of the card directly to the right of the Processor is in Slot/Port "0101"

In WinSPM, go to Maintaince instead of Sys Program _ Select Port, Station, then dial *0101 enter, then press Status. Now you will see the Extension Number, the Logical I D. and the Slot/Port.

Will I have to reprogram the calling groups
example 770 voice mail group

The numbering for your voicemail ports is just the default extention numbers under "setup space". If you want to renumber them to sometjing simpler (I usually number them in the 600 range) - the use system renumber, block, extentions, starting ext# 7116, ending ext number 7127 - new number 600. They will automatically update in calling group 770 - so no - you will not need to reprogram that group.

okay..thanks for the help on the renumbering.

okay question two.
I am trying to set up a delay call handling group with the merlin messaging

when i try to go to my overflow group 791. and try to assign lines to it, I just get the error tone.

I am entering 801, 802, 803, 804 etc etc.
The system is in key mode.
What am i doing wrong?

The beep means the lines are already assigned to a another group. You have to remove them from that group first. The group they are assigned to is probably 770 - so check to see if the lines are assigned there. If so - you first need to delete them from 770 - then assign them to 791. And don't forget to create an autoattendant1 mailbox for ext 791.

nope. no lines in 770. let me make sure i used the correct procedure

system..extensions ..more...grp calling..line pool....enter extension number of group....770...inspect for lines..there are no lines assigned.

thanks in advanced

Well - if it beeps when you try to assign those lines to 791 - then they are already assigned elsewhere. So - what I would suggest - is choose the Print option from WinSPM - and do a print of Group Calling. Look through the groups - and find which one your lines are currently assigned to. Then remove them from that group and assign them to 791.

thanks for the info.

By the way..I'm going to default the processor through the modem. will it drop me after it has been defaulted?

Yes - you will be disconnected - on any and every programming option that requires a reboot. I assume you will be doing this on site. Just remember that defaulting the processor will wipe out all programming.

Not on the programming in the messaging card itself (mailboxes, autoattendants, system parameters, etc. - but it will wipe out all system programming related to setting up the messaging (i.e., the voicemail calling group 770, group cover, rotary enabling of messaging ports, night service, line/pool assignments, etc.)

It would pobably be a good idea for you to do a backup of the system to your pc so you could at least restore it to what they have. It is always a good idea to do this before major changes.
