Hi, I just put in a new Sata Hard drive, reformated it and installed windows xp pro on it. My old hard drive ,i had my windows login passworded and made all the files that i need to get now, private (guests cant see the files im trying to get). I know the password and login name but it wont let me into those folders because the sata drive loads windows now not the old one, wich is what i want. I tried unpluging the sata and removing it from bootup so i could load the other hard drive alone and turn off the password but when i tried that it said windows was corrupt. its not corrupt when i open the drive from the sata drive, i can copy programs and files that are not "private" with no problem. So is there any way i can log onto the other hard drive through the sata drive like through CMD prompt? what would be the syntax for that? or is there a program i can download to do that? Thanks for reading this.

Well, as I understand you plug a new HDD, boot from it and couldn't accessprivate data from old one.
Am I correct?
If so, you should disable login on private files, If you don't want to do this, it's better to copy needed data from old HDD onto new one.
And another way is use OS Selector software.

Hi,
If you right-click the folder with those files ( while logged on as administrator), can you bring up the security settings and take ownership?

Ok i installed OS selector on the sata drive, it restarted and now winodws wont start and says insuficient system resourses at the login screen then restarts the computer.

To be more specific it says lsass.exe - system error Insuficient system resources exist to complete the API. also to reply to turkbear while logged on as administrator the make folder private tab was uncheckable. The files im trying to get were under a administrator account in the first place if that matters. If i could just load up the old hard drive alone w/o the sata drive i could just move the folders into a non private area or make nothing private but like i said when i try to load the old hard drive alone it says "Windows could not start because of a computer disk problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk, check boot path and hardware" Also wheres the "edit" tab in this forum i couldn't find it.

Thanks i got everything working and got my files. Thanks alot for the help.
