Does anyone on here log into BCMS over their network? I have a need to have someone in Virginia log into this MCB and they cannot. They say they can ping the ip address of the unit but cannot log in. Any thoughts? I am sure there is a firewall, but then I am not sure.

When you say login over the network is it a WAN or VPN?

You might have a proxy...try disabling it under LAN settings...

It is a wan. There is also a firewall...I just found that out today.

I thought that this was a forum for BCM telephone systems, not computer networks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

skippy440 I guess you don't know anything about BCM's or you would know thats how you communicate with them.

Skippy, most systems now can reside on a network and be access from the network. MAny techs will VPN to switches to do remote diagnostics and make changes. So don't be afraid of the network it is our friend.....

Hi Bigbenjabear

Can you disable the firewall and get in to the BCM?

Can you telnet into the BCM?

I would go down the firewall route sounds like that could be your problem.

If you need the ports for BCM let me know.

I am very knowledgeable on BCM (have been working with them for many years now. My comment was not a result of not knowing the product, but rather the unnecessary involvement of the BCM AND computer networks tied in together.

I have witnessed and seen too many problems on the BCM caused by this merging with networks. In one case, the customer's network got hit by a virus that took down their computer server AND the BCM's resources. In another case, the network's domain was the same as the BCM's name, so when the staff tried to log into the network server, it was actually trying to connect into the BCM, causing the BCM to shutdown.

This 'merging' of two separate systems might be ok if we, the phone tech's were computer IT network specialists too. (I wonder if my company will double my salary as I will be expected to know and learn TWO careers, not just one).

I long for the good old days where we were expected to just install phone sets and lines, be analog or PRI/T1

A tin can and a string got a little boring, I like the new telephone systems as I find them a challenge.

is it possible to telnet directly into the BCM? right now i'm telneting into one of the computers in the network and using that computers browser to get into the BCM
