We have several people that log in using root. What I need to do is have everyone to log in using there own account then su to root. How would I do this. We have Solaris, Tru64
and dec. Some are using korn and some bourne shell What would be the easiest way to do this.

Uncomment the line 'CONSOLE=/dev/console' in the file /etc/default/login. It will only allow direct root logins from the console, all other logins must be via a 'su'.

I believe this is what you are looking for.

Regards.

In Tru64, there is no file '/etc/default/login'.
But you may edit the file '/etc/securettys'. Keep the line '/dev/console', but remove 'ptys'. So root may login, when he is sitting at the console, but not when he comes from the network. 'su' remains possible for all users.
I hope this will help you.

Using smit select the following options:
Security & Users-->
Login Controls-->
Change / Show Login Attributes for a User-->
* User NAME [root] -->(enter root)

User can LOGIN REMOTELY? false (change from "true" to "false" using the TAB key)

That will sort it all out for you.
