Hi Folks,

My boss wants me to write a script that will provide an daily log of incoming/outgoing e-mail from our sendmail server. Not the message but just to,from, date.

Is this information kept someplace in sendmail already or in another file?

How would I go about doing this? I plan on using Perl to parse the file.

Thank You.

Alex-

Sendmail logs through the syslogd.

You do need to look at your /etc/syslog.conf file to see where mail logs
are put by the syslogd daemon. On my system it's /var/adm/messages.

This logs email coming and going with a time stamp.

Like everyone has said just look in /var/log/maillog and copy the file somehwere and email it to your boss.
