I am running W2K server advance. When I log on it takes me back to log on screen with no msg and it take a very long time to process

When the server finally allows you to log in, go to the event viewer and post any errors in the System and Application logs. We need a little more to go on. Also, what was the last change that was performed on the server?

ok but the problem is it is not allowing me to log in it just keeps going back to login screen with no error message.

Log on to a client as an admin open computer management and connect remotely to the server this should allow you to view the event logs.

porkchop makes a great suggestion. If that doesn't work try restrarting the server in Safe Mode to see if it allow you to log on locally.

ok I tried all forms of login. Nada, zilch, shes a broke and all i can do is laugh right now. It keeps coming back to logon screen with no errors or messages.

I can not gain access to this machine we dont use a domain controller we use workgroup and share drives with w2k authentication

You should still be able to use the Mgmt Console remotely by connecting using the local admin account of the Server in which you are attempting to connect to... Don't need a Domain for that. ServerName\Administrator....

sorry for delay in time to return. The only way I can access the partition is through repair consol

Well you could try a repair install and if that fails then you'll be relying on your backup.

ok then it is rebuilding time. one question where is the registry locacted as long as i can gain access to that I am good.

when I do the repair it comes back windows partition found but it does see the C:\winnt when I does a console repair
