We have just created a user on a win xp local machine and then added a password to the administrator to increase the security on the machine.
Upon logging out and logging back in it does not give us the access to log in as the administrator anymore, is there a way to reverse what we have done and get back on to the computer as the administrator?

Regards

Jodi

By default, Administrator does not show on the Welcome Screen. In the famous MS phrase: 'This behavior is by design'.

To get to the Administrator account:
1. At the welcome screen, you can press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to logon as Administrator
2. Admistrator will be available on the Welcome Screen in Safe mode
3. Use this utility to enable Administrator on the normal Welcome Screen

thanks heaps smah, did not know that, have only dealt with win xp in a network environment where the little box comes up and gives you the option to log in as a user names.

Regards

Jodi

In the network environment, the Welcome Screen is disabled (once again 'by design'). You can also duplicate this on standalone machine by going to Control Panel, User Accounts, Change the way Users Logon or off, uncheck 'Use the Welcome Screen'.
