The log.nsf intermitently grows out of control at around 200 Mb per hour. Once around 3Gb in size performance degrades and must be rebooted. Currently running notes 5.0.9
may go weeks or days before playing up. Shared mail and Object views of logs connot be viewed once file starts to grow, so error may be around this area.

You are using shared mail. Darn you are brave. Lotus wont even recommend using shared mail and they wrote the thing. Its the worst idea in the world. We run all 5.0.8 servers and although the log does grow its never gone crazy like yours. I would suggest maybe disabling shared mail. You should always make a habit of creating new logs every few months anyway

hi !!
On Domino Administrator, Chose the server go to the Configuration windows, transactionnal log, and fix there the maximum size of the log and check if the log style is a circulare one .

Hi
We are not using Transactional Logging - our problem is the notes error log.nsf file grows very fast sometimes. We used to use shared mail, but it was switched off. The shared mail files are still their.

is it reporting any errors?

because something must be causing the log to grow.

might be a good idea to get rid of the problem first before doing something about the symptoms? This is kinda like shooting the messenger.

cheers

Check your Configuration document for the server. On the NOTES.INI Settings tab, check for LOG_XXXX parameters and have a close look at their values. Maybe you are just logging too much info for certain events.

Thanks

I will reduce the log level.

Hi all
I reduced the logging level in th INI file and remove the startat3am settings which are for Share mail which we dont use. This is day 5 now without a reboot - thanks for all the help.

If the problem is that you just have to much data, but still need a high logging level, Try setting the replication settings to space savers, remove documents in the last x days (where x is 14 (14 days ok for you)), back up the log files every two weeks to a seperate name.

Penny

Thanks - So far its still OK - 10 days now without a problem.

delete it, I will say:),hahaha Power up your Notes/Domino if you know how to use it!

Q1: what is power?
Q2: what is up?
Q3: what is Notes/Domino? *&%$#@
