I created a new domain controller, I configured user to log into new domain. It takes long time to log in, what's the reason?
User PC points to right DNS Server.

help?

Is this the only DNS server the user is pointing to. Also is there a firewall between the segments that is blocking any ports?

Are you using roaming profiles?
If you are this would be a reason for slow logins as the profile has to be downloaded from the server.

Try pinging the server and noting the response time. Could be your network is slow. Also try a tracert to the server from the client.

Also check that the server is plugged into a compatible LAN port. I.e. if the server is running 100MB fixed, then the port on the switch should be set to 100MB etc.

I would ensure the server is set to 10/100 Auto and that it is plugged into a 10/100 Switch. Perform a similar check with the client.

Another thing to check is that the client has the server as the first DNS server in its IP settings.

My bet is that this is the problem as Win2k domains register RR and SRV records in DNS. These records are used to locate the closest AD servers in the domain.

Run DcDiag.exe and NetDiag.exe in verbose mode, any events showing up in the event viewer. How long does it take the logins to occur ?

I am just trying with 2003 domain with 2 client pc and one server. It's connected on existing NT network.
One DNS Server.
Client Pointing to DNS server.
I am on 100 Network.
It takes around 10 minutes to log in (Not using roaming profiles)

Technome: I have to install netdiag.exe and dcdiag.exe to run, right? What is verbose mode?

On the server Cd look for the support tools install, in the support\tools directory.

Verbose mode is...
Dcdiag /v
Netdiag /v

10 minutes is a definite problem, on a relatively fast machine it should take, say roughly 15 secs, more with a larger profile.
