Lockup During Bootup 1

I have been running 5.8 on an x86 box and have had no problems until now. During reboot I get "Permission denied" when trying to NFS mount and thats where it stops. The server it's trying to mount to no longer exists, so... Is there a way to remove this process when I can't get to a prompt?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi,

Try the following:

1) Boot into single user mode (by typing b -s during boot process, when prompted for boot arguments).

2) Rename /etc/rc2.d/S73nfs.client to /etc/rc2.d/s73nfs.client.

3) Rename /etc/rc3.d/S15nfs.server to /etc/rc2.d/s15nfs.server.

The above commands will stop the nfs server and client Daemonds from executing at startup.

4) Reboot.

5) Remove nfs mount from /etc/vfstab.

StickyBit.

Sorry number 3 should read.

3) Rename /etc/rc3.d/S15nfs.server to /etc/rc3.d/s15nfs.server.

However this is not really needed because it's the nfs server daemond script (its good to know though).

shouldn't you be able to edit the vfstab in single user mode? This would eliminate the need to turn of nfs.
