i have 2 users on my xp pro, im using it as a stand alone. but when i wana lock it (winkey+L) it switches user and goes to welcome screen, any way that i can lock my computer, but not lose welcome screen.

Do you think I should by a monkey, it's cheaper and better than windows :p

You can use the security logon panel in the alternative, but there has to be a logon. the username/password is the unlock code.

the Ctrl+alt+del to logon, ewhh lol. I mean just say I go out, but dont want another person using the system, and i lock it. But I meanIf i chose to enable lock system will the welcome screen become windowsNT login box. and how do I set up the lock system.

The Welcome Screen is not excluded by a Lock Workstation. Warning though: If you are using the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching is enabled, other users will still have access to you computer, by selecting their Username and entering their password. Additionally, if you don't have a password on your account, then all that is required is to click on your Username on the Welcome screen.

Fastest way to lock your workstation: Windows key + L
Second fastest:
Create a new shortcut on the desktop and in it type

%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

You can put that on the Quick Launch bar if you like.

my luck, it still switches users :p. Is there anything in admin tools to allow this. I remember when i first attemped to install xp i could lock xp, when i came out of hibernation i remember asking to unlock workstation, but that installment was a fresh install from xp. now this is a total fresh install...
why microsoft can we have little icons that will make this simpler, we may see this in 10 years when microsoft deside that windows will become linux based lol.

If there is only one user, you do not even see the Welcome screen. You can still get the Welcome screen rather than the security logon. Start, Run, control userpasswords2
On the second page, bottom, uncheck the setting. Look to at Control panel, User Accounts, and check the setting for the way users log in.

'i have 2 users on my xp pro'
i was thinking would unchecking switch users work??

Fast User Switching On = Welcome Screen -or- Security Logon
Fast User Switching Off = Security Logon
