Hello, I'm running AIX 5.2 connected to an EMC dmx1000 array. Recently I was removing some old file systems and their symmetrix volumes/devices. Typically I write_disable the symm device and then wait a while. If all ok then I will unmap the device then finally dissolve the symmetrix meta volume
I meant to write_disable 19a but typed 192 by mistake. The 192 device/volume was part of a mounted file system. By the time I realized the mistake the AIX Volume Group became locked and all users were locked out. AIX has the command "chvg -u" which will let you unlock a Volume Group. In this case the command would not work. We finally had to bring down all applications and reboot - not good as we had a long outage.
I was surprised the write_disable caused so many problems. Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas on a better strategy? My hope was that if I ever made a typo I could simply rw_enable the symm volume and keep going.
