Locked by User "admin"

Hi - I have a backend database that is on a network drive. I also have each of the users front ends on the network drive. The folder on the drive is secure. I never set up security on the database, even though I probably should.

Recently, some of the users get a message (Could'nt update; currently locked by user "admin" on machine #######"

This just started recently and it happens when someone is trying to add a new recrod to the main table.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Like I said, it just started happening recently.

Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Is this happening on a Novell network? I have been chasing this same thing for a few weeks now.

This sounds like a record locking issue. One person is already trying to edit/update the same record as another.

Another thing is that Access 'page locks', when one person is working on a record it locks others around it as well. I am not sure but I believe the page file is 1K (it think).

Another reason this could be happening is that a user is in the mdb file and has the table open in design view. This would lock the entire table.

Thanks for the replies - It is not Novell. The weird thing is it just started happening. The user was adding a new record and not editing an existing record. Also, I don't think they were in design view as they have no clue and it has happened about 6 times in the past two weeks (then again)

Gol4 - Did has your database been up and running for a while however this problem just started ? Thats what is happening here.
