Location of Temporary Internet Files

Question: I have an XP Pro machine that is joined to our domain. I want to make the users "limited users". At the same time I want to make their Temporary Internet Files location be on the C: drive. IE: C:\Temporary Internet Files.

The problem is that I go into Internet Options, I change the location, it logs the user off (all of which is normal). I then log back in as the user and check the location of the Temp files and it has been changed to c:\temp\temporary internet files.

What am I missing? How do I force it to go to c:\temporary internet files without giving the user "Administrator" rights?

Try creating a shortcut to IE, then using RunAs via that shortcut to open IE as an administrator. Try moving the Temporary Internet Files folder at that point and see if it successfully creates the folder at the root of C:\.

I'm curious what this accomplishes for you. I've seen this option, but never considered what it might be good for...

I did as you said. It worked to a point. I right click the shortcut and choose Run As. I then chose the administrator and entered the password and it put the temporary internet files in the c:\temporary internet files. But if I got out of IE and just double clicked on the shortcut, it would put it back to c:\temp\temporary internet files. I would have to right click on the shortcut, choose Run As and input the administrator password again before it would use c:\temporarty internet files.

Unless there is a way of making it permament to use the administrator name/password, then the shortcut will not work.

Any other ideas.

It has to have something to do with the permissions on that c:\temporary internet files\ folder. Can you list them here?

Unfortunately, under XP, you cannot see the permissions for this folder. I can see the permissions for every other folder, but this folder only shows a General tab.

Another option is to use CACLS command-line to set Permissions.

I am still having this problem. I have no idea why on some computers it works fine, while on others, it just screws up.

Of course, am talking about XP.
