DOes anyone have a suggestion to locate "lost" pairs on lets say a BT that has several 66 blocks and is in a bad state, i.e. a "horror story of wires"!

Sometimes I have been able to dial the telephone number use my Toner Tester unit and take the wand, turn up the volume and run it over each of the blocks listening for that harsh ringing sound but this does not always find the lost pair.

Any suggestins or any equipment you can suggest I use to find hard to find "lost" pairs?

LOL, KWB, you're not a real telephone man unless you have had ring current hit your teeth!

Getting a little digital signal will make you yelp more than an analog line but i dont think it would be life threatening. I caught some on my cheek in a tight space but the head trauma from jerking away made me forget exactly how painful it was.

I wired up the clip on my buttset to the tip contuctor inside of the set. This way I could bring up ground start lines by just touching the clip to ground. I was up a pole on a hot and sweaty day and that clip was touching my wet t shirt. When I hooked up the leads the current went through the clip onto my chest and I thought I was having a heaart attack at first. In my younger days a quick test for dialtone was to wet your fingers and touch the lugs.

I was splicing a icky pic 25 pair cable in the rain
and was kneeling in a mud puddle guess what happened next....

first time I was on a 66 block leaned with my forearm on it to have some hold while leaning to one side.
Exactly what pbxtech described happened and I can tell you that it is save to say that you know if the pin you are looking for is there, LOL

I have to say that I started 1984 in the business but in Germany there are no blank pins any more for ages, except in the CO, so I had not thought of wiping the sweat of my arm or not touching 30 or more pins at one time when trying to get a hold.
