Anyone come accross this particular beaut.

My clients have locally attached printers or at least some have.

I have installed the drivers for these printers.
I have checked user manager and Client config.
There is no reason for these printers not to be available.
But they are not.
Imported print server printers are available.

I do not get any message in eventvwr about not being able to attach to client printers.

Could this be a WINS issue ? Reason I ask is that I recently created a new WINS server on the network and am getting some funnies with it.

Cheers

What a plank.

Environment.

NT4 domain.

XP in testing at present with no SP or FR, and is on W2K3.
There is an old Winframe server lying about.

WINS lives on a NT4 DC box currrently, new WINS on NT4 BDC.

Could be the Win2K3 policies.

By default, Win2K3 does not allow NT4 printer drivers, as they are "kernel mode" not "user mode"

Check this link...

My suggestion - get new drivers for everything, or as a last resort, allow them thru group policy.

Cheers,
Sam

Hmmmm,

not entirely sure of what you are saying.
I installed the drivers before attaching any clients. Therfore I would have expected these to be Win2K3 or at least Win2L.

Clients are a mix of XP & win2K & win98 Win95 etc.

Will have a look at group policy tho'

The drivers themselves may be NT4. Check it by trying this (as an Admin)..

Open Printers & Faxes
File -> Server Properties
"Drivers" tab lists the currently installed drivers.

Any driver that says "Windows 2000 or XP" in the version is a "User Mode" or "Version 3" driver.
If they say "Windows NT 4.0 or 2000" then they are actually a legacy "Kernel Mode" or "version 2" driver.

Windows 2003 will not allow these Kernel mode drivers by default. The document link I posted explains all of that.

Cheers,
Sam

Since it's running on win2k3, i will asume FR3:
Could you check the following:

- The FR level of the server in the CMC, MUST be set on FR3
- The FR3 licenses must be installed, and activated
- The client must run at least citrix version 7

Free citrixprinting support

hi,
ensure that in CCC (citrix conn. config), there are not
explicit deny to map dirvers/printers at client.
bye

OK Guys thanks for the input.
I have it fixed I applied Hotfix XE103W2K3011 and it worked.
I have a few mapping issues but hey I can print now.

Not running Fr3 YET.

I have never come accross this one before as Client printers just work..

Cheers
