Hello,
I'm beginning to set up a domain dns server.
Should I change the localhost.localdomain SOA in the localhost zone file to my nameserver and add my ns records also. I've seen a few samples like this.

NO!!! do not edit the existing files that u install with your DNS program... leave those and create your own db file.. such as db.yourdomain

u will have to edit your config file.. am guessing u use BIND.. so u would have /etc/named.conf... and add your zone/domain name...

good luck

After reading that doc, and UNDERSTANDING what is going on, go to and install webmin, it has a nice webbased gui for doing ALOT of system functions and configuration....

One caveat: make sure you enable ssl and block access to it from outside your internal network (firewall it off from the internet)

It is a great tool when set up correctly :)
