Localhost forbidden

When I type in

http://localhost/

I get the error 403 Forbidden. When I ping localhost I do get a reply.
I think it is a security problem, but have checked everything. The IIs6.log file does not show anything.
I have set the aspnet user authentication and made a virtual directory. I use XP prof and asp.net
Any help ?

What is the purpose of doing what you are trying to do by just entering "

http://localhost/"

instead of the project and page name?
