locale settings - International phone code

How is it possible to modify the locale settings?.

Anyone can explain me how to implement the language, the monetary time, layout and Messages in Sun Solaris 8??

Which file are necessary to be changed, and if we must reboot the machine.

Please explain deeperly, all the steps that must be performed.
In particular:
We have to modify the international phone code (prefix)
for a specific regional settings in SUN Solaris 8 Environment. Example:
I have +44 for the UK. We have to change(or add?) this value in +234.
Please Can you describe the procedure to do this step by step?

I'm not sure, but I don't think LOCALE settings include 'phone codes.

I see that in /usr/lib/locale/ that are many directory with different "nationality".

If I digit locale from the prompt command I receive the following output:

LANG=
LC_CTYPE="C"
LC_NUMERIC="C"
LC_TIME="C"
LC_COLLATE="C"
LC_MONETARY="C"
LC_MESSAGES="C"
LC_ALL=

How is it possible to change this settings?

Can you please explain me which are sthe steps to do, the files to modify, if it's necessary to reboot the machine??

Hi try,

If you pick the locale you require from the files in /usr/lib/locale then edit /etc/TIMEZONE (which is a link to /etc/default/init) and change it from "C" to the one of your choice, then reboot the server, that should do the trick.

For instance my /etc/TIMEZONE for a server in the UK running solaris 8 looks like :-

TZ=GB
LC_COLLATE=en_GB
LC_CTYPE=en_GB
LC_MESSAGES=en_GB
LC_MONETARY=en_GB
LC_NUMERIC=en_GB
LC_TIME=en_GB

Hope this helps.

Note: When we upgraded from 2.6 to 2.8 the en_UK locale disappeared to be replaced by en_GB but the upgrade didn't spot it so when you reboot you get loads of "Can't find locale" messages.
